FAQs

We have tried to answer the most common questions we are asked here.

Contact Support

If you have a question that we have not covered then just get in touch and we'll be happy to help.

How do I set up and start a measurement?

Automatically of course. Just connect the microphone and power up the monitor and measurement starts within minutes. The monitor will continue logging sound levels until power is removed.

How do I install the microphone?

The microphone for the Sonisens unit can either be attached to the front of the monitor or extended on a cable. The standard cable is 2m long but it can be extended. The choice of how you attached the microphone is dependent on where you can place the device to get a good measurement. The Sonisens is also supplied with a microphone mounting fixing. This small bracket allows you to connect the microphone in a number of ways to any surface. So you can place it on a wall, ceiling or anywhere else. There are some considerations for good acoustic measurement, get in touch with us if you have any questions.

How do the communications and data upload work?

Each Sonisens device has two network connection options; Wi-Fi and Ethernet. One of these is used for sending readings back to our cloud platform and the other is for the user interface (set up and configuration). Which connection you use is up to you.

When you first connect to the Sonisens device you can choose which connection is going to use the internet to return readings. You enter your settings e.g. Wi-Fi network name and password and then reboot the device. Everything else is automated. The readings are pushed to the Sonitus Cloud for analysis.

If you want to use the Sonisens independently of any other networks then you can choose to add the optional 4G modem with our international SIM card.

How do I connect the Sonisens to my network?

The Sonisens will measure automatically even without a network connection. But it needs a link to the internet to upload readings to the Sonitus Cloud. If your building or organisation has an IT department then you might need to work with them to get the Sonisens unit online (we can help with that too). The Sonisens monitor uses secure data transfer protocols that should not cause any concern for network admins.

If you have a direct network link to the internet that uses DHCP then just then just connect the monitor into the network and upload is automatic.

How do I access the readings?

When you receive one of our sound level monitors we provide a secure login to our Sonitus Cloud platform which gives access to all your readings. Using these online tools you can access readings, plot graphs, export spreadsheets and set up automated analysis functions for processing your data.

All your readings are stored on the device and can be downloaded for analysis or back up.

Can I send the readings to my own dashboard?

Each device is connected to the Sonitus Cloud for status checks and data upload. If you want to send the readings to your own software then we can export the data over FTP or API. Just get in touch with us and we'll set up a transfer that works with your system.
